He didn’t wander far from the tundra often, but when Wolfgang was busy with (dull) kingly duties or couldn’t be found, Azriael got bored. It was surprising to find out he was the sole subject of the Tundra pride - actually, no it wasn’t. The tundra sucked as far as locations went. Yes, it was pretty. Yes, the dens in the caverns were warm enough to be comfortable. Yes, there was easy to catch prey. He had been delighted to find the warm springs. But it was still cold. He didn’t want to admit that he was likely acclimatising, finding it easier to bear the icy wind and snow under his paws. He would much rather continue to whine about it.
That was likely why he couldn’t find the emperor that morning when he, finally, pulled himself from his own little den. Azriael hadn’t had a den of his own since he left his birth pride, so there was something oddly satisfying about having one now. It was sparse, nothing worth noting so far. He’d found a few abandoned furs from whoever lived in the tundra before, used them to sleep on instead of the cold floor. But still, it was his.
Instead of snooping around tundra, Azriael followed the high cliffs of the coast. It took half a day to reach an acceptable looking beach. Though he had no intention to swim, he couldn’t deny the salt on the breeze was nice. He flopped down into the sand and sighed, absorbing the heat like a lizard on a sun-warmed rock.
